Hyper-sensitivities (over-responsiveness) and hypo-sensitivities (under-responsiveness) to a wide range of stimuli are often things that some autistic people find challenging.

These can include sensitivities to sounds, smell, touch, and taste. Many people are hyper-sensitive to certain sounds, and many find bright lights, smells, and tastes overwhelming.

Calmer is a small device worn in the ear to reduce stress. We originally designed Calmer to specifically help us all to deal with noises that cause us stress and anxiety. They do this without reducing the volume, so you don’t feel disconnected from the world.

This makes Calmer perfect for: Sensitive Hearing, Hyperacusis, Misophonia, noise related stress & other hearing conditions. Calmer soothes sound sensitivities and calms your audio world.

Calmer reduce frequencies of roughly 2 kHz - 8 kHz. As a result, this produces a much more even sound response smoothing out frequencies that are jarring and therefore resulting in an improved and more pleasant sound.

“I was given these calmer buds to try to see if they would help with my anxiety, I am 11 years old and Autistic. I find loud noises distracting and they cause me a lot of anxiety, I struggle to be in room with loud noise and can go into crisis if over stimulated. At first I did not believe they would work at all as I have tried many different types of ear defenders from foam plugs to over the ear defenders, neither fully worked for me. I was nervous at first after putting them in I felt they were not working, it was only after putting them in the correct way did I experience the full benefit. For the first time in a very long time I was able to tolerate the real world, going into shops that played music (HMV) I did not become overwhelmed, the music was more than I could normally handle but it didn’t want me to run away. After using them for a week I cannot be without them when ever I go out. I would like to thank Naomi for allowing me to try them, and after thinking about it and talking with my parents I would say that these calmers would be great for people similar to me (autistic), as my anxiety levels did go down when I wore them.”
